Circle has announced a significant update to its Web3 service in July 2024, which aims to improve the developer experience on its Programmable Wallets platform. According to Circle, these updates include social login, email OTP (one-time password) authentication, and ‘enum’ updates to API endpoints to align with the Metaplex standard of the Solana blockchain.
New onboarding and authentication methods
The latest update introduces social login and email OTP to streamline the onboarding process and provide a more seamless transaction experience for users. These features are designed to help developers implement faster and more efficient user-controlled wallet systems. Circle offers a free tier for the first 1,000 monthly active wallets, with fee tiers decreasing as usage increases.
API updates for Solana
To maintain compatibility with the Metaplex standard, Circle has updated the token standard ‘enum’ for fungible tokens on the Solana blockchain from ‘FT’ to ‘Fungible’. This change impacts several API endpoints, including:
- Get wallet/id/balance
- Get wallet/id/nft
- GET token/id
- GET config/entity/monitoredTokens
- POST configuration/entity/monitoring token
- Add config/entity/monitoredTokens
Developers leveraging these endpoints should review any changes to understand how they may impact their projects.
