CoreWeave, known for its advanced AI cloud platform, has made significant progress in the UK with its first two data centers located in Crawley and London Docklands. According to PR Newswire, these centers are renowned for hosting Europe’s substantial deployment of NVIDIA H200 GPUs with the aim of strengthening the UK’s AI infrastructure capabilities.
Expand your AI capabilities
CoreWeave’s plans in the UK form part of a wider £1 billion investment strategy announced last year, underscoring the company’s intention to expand its presence in Europe. The Crawley data centre, operating in partnership with Digital Realty from October 2024, and the London Docklands centre, operating with Global Switch from December 2024, will both run entirely on renewable energy, in line with CoreWeave’s sustainability goals.
Strategic Partnerships and Investments
The launch of these data centers follows CoreWeave’s designation of London as its European headquarters in 2024 and a further £750 million commitment announced at the International Investment Summit. This strategic move highlights the importance of the UK to CoreWeave’s global operations, as highlighted by Mike Mattacola, CoreWeave’s Chief Business Officer. He commented on the growing market importance of the UK and the company’s plans for further development in the region.
Strengthening AI infrastructure
CoreWeave’s infrastructure is purpose-built for AI workloads and sets it apart from existing cloud solutions that suffer from legacy architectures. The UK data centers are part of a global network and CoreWeave plans to open 28 data centers worldwide by the end of 2024, with a further 10 centers planned for 2025.
Industry and government support
The plan has received positive reviews from industry leaders and government officials. Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves praised the investment as evidence of the UK’s strong digital technology sector. Meanwhile, Séamus Dunne, Managing Director of Digital Realty, and Ashley Muldoon, CEO of Global Switch, expressed their enthusiasm for the partnership with CoreWeave, highlighting the advancement of AI infrastructure in Europe.
Through these developments, CoreWeave will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of AI technology in the UK and beyond by leveraging its specialist cloud platform to empower businesses in the AI domain.
