Crypto-centric travel platform Travala has made a major step forward in cryptocurrency adoption by integrating with the global Skyscanner marketplace.
According to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph, this is Skyscanner’s first implementation of a cryptocurrency-based application.
According to Sanja Vukik, Skyscanner’s head of hotels, this new partnership highlights Skyscanner’s commitment to offering a range of payment methods to meet the growing needs of travellers.
“By integrating Skyscanner’s market-leading search capabilities with Travala.com’s cryptocurrency-based platform, we are making travel planning more accessible and flexible for a growing number of travelers who prefer alternative payment methods.”
With access to Skyscanner’s 110 million+ monthly active users, Travala has the potential to significantly increase public interest in cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based applications.

Crypto apps with “real-world” use cases can drive mass adoption.
According to Justin Hyun, Investment Director at the TON Foundation, attracting the next 500 million users will require simple apps with “real-world usability” that can be “Trojan horses” for mass adoption, such as Telegram Mini Apps.
Travala also believes that the Skyscanner partnership could provide a significant boost to mainstream Web3 adoption as it demonstrates the utility of cryptocurrencies, Travala CEO Juan Otero told Cointelegraph.
“Travel marketplaces like Skyscanner are where many travelers start their research journey, and having Travala featured on one of the world’s leading travel marketplaces will spark curiosity that will drive Web2 users into the Web3 world.”
Skyscanner processes over 80 billion searches on average every day, which could lead to a surge of new users discovering Travala’s cryptocurrency-based travel platform.

Cryptocurrency rewards for travelers instead of regular loyalty points
Travala aims to revolutionize travel for cryptocurrency holders by allowing them to book trips directly with cryptocurrency payments.
Unlike other travel platforms like Booking, Expedia, etc., Travala offers users the option to pay with over 100 different cryptocurrencies.
According to Travala’s Otero, Travala is offering travelers cryptocurrency rewards instead of traditional loyalty points.
“Travala’s key differentiator is its wider range of payment options for global travelers. In addition, Travala has an integrated cryptocurrency-based loyalty program that offers cryptocurrency rewards instead of traditional loyalty points.”
Founded in 2017, Travala is a cryptocurrency-based travel booking platform that offers booking services for over 2.2 million accommodations in 230 countries and over 600 international airlines.
