It’s still unclear whether cryptocurrency video game “Nyan Heroes” will be a long-term success, but developer 9 Lives Interactive believes there’s a lot to be encouraged about following the game’s limited pre-alpha release on the Epic Games Store. .
After a two-week run on the popular online game store “Nyan Heroes”, the game ranked among the top 30 most played games, with more than 200,000 users downloading the web3 title, according to 9 Lives Interactive. The title is also listed as one of the top games to be added to your “wishlist” on the Epic Games Store.
“There was still some jank in some areas of the game and things were still somewhat buggy,” Max Fu, creative director and CEO of 9 Lives Interactive, told The Block. “But ultimately, our goal was to create a somewhat polished and smooth gaming experience… to get all the key elements of the core gameplay loop in place and test whether people found it fun.”
According to the developer, the limited pre-alpha run of ‘Nyan Heroes’ ran from March 26 to April 9.
The video game is a mech shooting game featuring a cat pilot. Unreal Engine 5. Users can already buy, sell, and trade in-game assets, but the current game build does not include NFT integration.

On-chain and off-chain
“We have plans to allow both on-chain and off-chain assets to be freely traded within the same in-game marketplace,” Fu said, adding that the marketplace ‘feature’ should be implemented after the second major update this year. added.
9 Lives Interactive aims to release the full version of the game on PC by early next year. Eventually, players will have the option to customize their gaming experience and trade in-game assets on the marketplace. However, players who don’t want to participate in NFTs will be free to play “Nyan Heroes” without interacting with the blockchain aspects the game offers, Fu said.
Overall, Fu said his team is pleased with the pre-alpha results, noting that many of the players who downloaded the game were not web3 players.
Based on the game’s popularity during the pre-alpha period, Fu said he plans to re-release it on the Epic Games Store in the coming weeks to give more people a chance to download and play “Nyan Heroes.”
Epic Games previously also listed early access versions of cryptocurrency video games still in development, such as “Shrapnel,” “Illuvium,” and “Star Atlas.”
