Dutch authorities have made an arrest in connection with the latest scam surrounding relatively new cryptocurrency project ZKasino. The suspect’s detention period was extended for another 14 days.

Dutch authorities have made an arrest in connection with the latest scam surrounding relatively new cryptocurrency project ZKasino. The decentralized platform has promised more than 10,000 investors that they will be able to request $33 million worth of Ethereum (ETH) back once the protocol goes live. But it seems the developers had other plans. As soon as the project launched on April 20, investors could no longer redeem their bridged ETH.

Meanwhile, The Block reported that $33 million invested by users was sent to Lido as the platform attempted to post over what it called “noise and FUD.”

Authorities swoop in to help Zkasino fraud victims

Most investors are concerned that a rug pull could occur. The Financial Intelligence Unit (FIOD) has arrested a 26-year-old man in the ZKasino case. Authorities believe the man played a key role in all the fraud, embezzlement and money laundering that occurred on the platform.

A report released by FIOD on May 3 claims that not only has an as-yet-unidentified man been arrested, but authorities have already seized $12.2 million worth of cryptocurrency, real estate, and luxury cars in the case. This represents a major breakthrough that has seen investors lose millions of dollars in digital assets.

The platform’s initial promise to repay investors within 30 days also turned out to be a fraud. Investigations have shown that the smart contracts overseeing the platform had no intention of delivering on these promises.

The suspect’s arrest is the first and only in the ongoing investigation into ZKasino fraud. It is still unclear whether further arrests will be made and only time will tell. Meanwhile, the suspect’s detention period was extended by another 14 days to give investigators more time and opportunity to gather evidence and establish additional facts.

As authorities continue to pursue leads and identify individuals involved in the fraud to recover stolen assets, this swift action sends a clear message that fraudulent activity will not be tolerated in the digital asset space.
