Another EasyA Hackathon winner (aka “Gigabrain”) is heading to Y Combinator. Artemiy Malyshau and Jeevan Juttla attended the first EasyA x Polkadot hackathon about two years ago and first began experimenting with the idea that would later become Gecko Sec. Today, they have just been accepted into the world-renowned Y Combinator accelerator, which powers some of the world’s most successful Web3 companies such as CoinBase, Filecoin, and more.
According to the team, Gecko Sec allows Web3 developers to quickly build secure code without wasting time on tools that don’t deliver results or relying on one-time human penetration tests that quickly become outdated. They are working to roll out this feature for the teams behind Polkadot as they continue to develop groundbreaking software. Writing safe and secure code is one of the biggest concerns of Web3 developers, with millions of dollars being spent on security audits every month in Web3 alone.
EasyA gigabrains Jeevan Jutla and Artemiy Malyshau are credited with helping EasyA succeed and inspiring it to succeed.
“What started at the EasyA hackathon ended up getting support from Y Combinator. A huge thank you to Phil and Dom for pushing us out of our comfort zone and getting us this far!” said Artemiy Malyshau, co-founder of Gecko Sec.
Jeevan Juttla and Artemiy Malyshau also have high-level professional and educational backgrounds. Jeevan Juttla, CEO and co-founder of Gecko Sec, holds a first class degree in Electrical Engineering from King’s College London. After graduation, Jeevan was hired by the UK government’s National Cyber Security Center to protect the UK government’s data, and later joined Binance as a security engineer.
Artemiy Malyshau also graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering from King’s College London, one of the UK’s top universities. Shortly thereafter, he obtained a Master’s degree with distinction in Applied Computer Science and Engineering from Imperial College University.
GeckoSec joins the ranks of EasyA Hackathon winners who have achieved success in the blockchain space. Other EasyA hackathon winners, such as Axal, founded by Harvard graduate Ashlan Ahmed, received support from a16z and plan to announce their latest fundraising round later this month. To date, EasyA alumni have already founded companies worth nearly $3 billion.
EasyA has received interest from VCs seeking access to their startup pipeline. Although they are not sharing exact details yet, EasyA shares that they are aiming to launch a fund designed to invest only in the GigaBrain community and hackathon winners.
“Seeing EasyA GigaBrain go from hackathon to acceptance into YC is a testament to the talent density and founder spirit within the EasyA community. I have never seen anything like it.” said Dom Kwok, co-founder of EasyA.
Much of the success of EasyA Hackathon winners can be attributed to the company’s co-founders, who played a key role in identifying young talent and nurturing them into entrepreneurs. Users can join the EasyA Hackathon to find Phil and Dom on the ground and inspire developers to launch the next unicorn. EasyA co-founders Phil and Dom have been active in the blockchain space for over 10 years. Prior to EasyA, Phil worked at the prestigious law firm Sullivan & Cromwell and Dom worked at The Blackstone Group, the world’s largest private equity firm. Their educational backgrounds have also provided EasyA with a unique pipeline of talented entrepreneurs across the United States and Europe. Phil was a top scholar at the University of Cambridge, and Dom studied at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated magna cum laude as a Joseph Wharton and Benjamin Franklin Scholar.
According to Phil and Dom, they’re just getting started. There will be a number of notable fundraising announcements coming from the EasyA community in the coming months.
