Ready Player One, Ernest Cline’s dystopian novel about the OASIS, a virtual reality world where people escape the bleak real world, comes to life in an ambitious new metaverse project.
Cline teamed up with AI and metaverse company Futureverse to create “Readyverse,” an interactive virtual world inspired by Cline’s best-selling book and Steven Spielberg’s 2018 film adaptation.
key point
- Ready Player One author Ernest Cline is working with an artificial intelligence company called Futureverse to create a metaverse based on the book/movie.
- They founded a new company called Readyverse Studios to develop this metaverse, called “Readyverse”.
- Readyverse Studios is partnering with Warner Bros. to bring the Ready Player One franchise to the metaverse. Exclusively partnered with Discovery.
- Readyverse will be an interactive virtual world where people can explore environments and characters from the story through VR headsets and other devices.
- There will be opportunities for other studios and brands to create content and experiences in the Readyverse metaverse.
To bring Readyverse to life, Cline and “Ready Player One” filmmaker Dan Farah co-founded a new venture called Readyverse Studios. The company is affiliated with Warner Bros., which released the Ready Player One film. We partnered exclusively with Discovery to develop franchise-based metaverse experiences across web3 platforms.
According to Futureverse’s co-founder, the Readyverse metaverse will allow people to explore the environments, characters, and objects of the Ready Player One universe. Users can purchase custom “skins” or find avatars, as well as find digital assets like vehicles and real estate that are typically inaccessible in the real world.
The goal is to make Readyverse an open, interoperable, decentralized metaverse powered by blockchain technology for secure digital ownership.

Bringing a major Hollywood IP like Ready Player One into the digital metaverse is an important milestone in connecting entertainment and virtual worlds. This demonstrates the momentum of the metaverse and the opportunity for the studio to engage fans with new interactive storytelling formats. For Web3 advocates, this is a step toward mass consumer adoption of blockchain-based metaverse experiences.
While the full scope of the Readyverse is still being fleshed out, fans can expect to visit virtually rendered versions of iconic settings from the Ready Player One books and movies. They can play games, take on quests, and interact with characters like Parzival, Art3mis, and IOI head Nolan Sorrento. Readyverse Studios is planning partnerships with other studios to integrate more IP into this open metaverse.
Silicon Valley has poured investment into Metaverse and VR technology in the belief that it is the next evolution of the Internet. But some experts argue that Ready Player One’s vision of abandoning the real world for a utopian virtual simulation is far from reality. Challenges related to hardware constraints and mass adoption persist.
Still, Readyverse Studios’ momentum shows that major entertainment and technology companies are placing bets. For Warner Bros, Readyverse provides greater revenue generation for its hit franchise. For Ernest Cline, this is an opportunity to perfectly realize the virtual world he imagined. As he said, “The future has arrived faster than I ever imagined.” Now fans are eagerly waiting for their golden ticket to experience this virtual OASIS.
