- EOS Network Foundation has partnered with Upland and Aerial.
- This collaboration will make EOS the first “climate positive” blockchain network.
- EOS uses a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
The EOS Network has achieved a landmark milestone among blockchain networks, with its vision for a green blockchain crystallized through a recent collaboration between the EOS Network Foundation (ENF) and Upland, the Web3 platform for the metaverse.
EOS is “Climate Positive”
EOS was already a carbon neutral chain, but ENF worked with Upland and sustainability platform Aerial to evolve the EOS network from a carbon neutral blockchain to now a “climate positive” blockchain.
The move comes amid the growing adoption of green energy across proof-of-work blockchains like Bitcoin, where there has been much debate about how to achieve more in terms of environmental sustainability.
For EOS, a proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain, being “climate positive” means that the network’s activities extend beyond the pursuit of net-zero carbon emissions. This means the ecosystem is helping broader climate efforts by removing additional CO2 from the atmosphere. EOS is taking things to the next level as all carbon dioxide generated on the network is offset with carbon credits.
In addition to focusing on carbon emissions, ENF and its partners will explore ways to offset emissions through sustainable projects. The companies will also promote other eco-friendly practices, including afforestation.
