But there was one big problem. Despite the global Ethereum community, this information is primarily available in English. Access to this information is difficult for billions of non-English speaking people around the world.
ethereum.org and translation program
We have already seen ethereum.org demonstrate a successful community-driven service. Ethereum Translation Model. In 2019, ethereum.org began translating its educational open source content into multiple languages. Over time, these efforts expanded to: Available in 48 languages Thousands of volunteers translate millions of words every year.
The key elements to the success of a translation program are: Thousands of Passionate Contributors. For many people, translation is one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to the Ethereum ecosystem to learn, teach, and give back to the community.
Ethereum.org currently has:
- 3,800 contributing translators
- 48 languages live on site.
- In 2021, 2.9 million words were translated.
- 1.9 million words translated as of 2022
Are people using translation?
The ethereum.org team’s translation experiment highlights the value of providing Ethereum content in multiple languages. The takeaway here is clear. The more content you translate, the higher the percentage of total traffic going to translated pages. This trend has continued, with translated content accounting for 5% of pageviews at the end of 2019 and now accounting for 22% of all pageviews. This makes intuitive sense. Even community members who are good at self-reporting in English prefer to read in their native language.
The most complete translation of ethereum.org content is Simplified Chinese. result? 8% of all traffic on ethereum.org Simplified Chinese version of the website.
Translate everything!

From early 2022 we have also added some translations to some blog posts, e.g. recent testnet upgrade). However, this was a suboptimal and temporary solution considering that the blog does not natively support internationalization. Translations were not easily indexable, searchable, or intuitive to find.
