The ethereum.org translation program has been updated. Live for over 2 yearsAnd we’re excited to share some of the milestones we’ve achieved since our founding and some of our plans for the future.

Since launching this initiative in 2019, over 2,000 community members have contributed, translating a total of 2.8 million words to date!

Thanks to all these activities, ethereum.org is now available in 37 languages..

While English continues to be the primary language viewed on the site (88% of all page views), traffic to translated pages has also increased, more than tripling from last year.

Some of the progress we have made recently include:

  • In December 2020, we Announced the creation of content version 2.0+.. Thanks to our translators, 19 languages have already been translated to version 2.0 or higher.
  • We have expanded our translator resources and updated all public references to our translation program. For more information on how to participate, visit: Translation program page On the website.
  • Our community of translators also participated in the translation. Ethereum Staking LaunchpadThe effort launched earlier this year and is now available in 17 languages.
  • We recently formed a translation group to make it easier for translators to connect with each other and the ethereum.org team. There are currently 10 translation groups on our Discord server, with new translation groups being added on request. Contact us on Discord If you want to join!

Lastly, the latest development I would like to announce today is…

New content version

We have recently published a new content version of our website that includes added and significantly updated ethereum.org pages.

In addition to uploading new content for translators, we’ve also categorized existing content versions into more granular buckets. This allows translators to process high-impact content, such as homepages, into more accessible units of work. This makes it easier for contributors to reach their goals and allows you to add translated content to your website faster.

new content version It is divided as follows:

  1. Home page and site navigation

  2. Using Ethereum and the main learning page

  3. Use cases and contributions page

  4. Developer documentation (main topic)

  5. Developer documentation (Ethereum technology stack)

  6. blank

  7. Developer documentation (advanced topics)

  8. General page and additional learning page

  9. developer tutorial

looking ahead

As the third quarter comes to a close, we are already looking ahead to next quarter and beyond.

Below you can see some of our plans and proposed initiatives. We appreciate the community’s contributions, feedback, and ideas. If you would like to participate or suggest areas of future focus, please send us a message at: translation@ethereum.org.

range

We are expanding the scope of our translation program beyond: ethereum.org Content that includes other important content in the Ethereum ecosystem.

We are initially exploring the option of translating related blog posts. Ethereum Foundation Blog.

More information about this plan will be posted on ethereum.org and the ethereum.org Discord.

Do you know of a valuable community resource that you think we should translate? Let us know!

Translator Recognition

All the progress we have made thus far would not have been possible without great translators. That’s why we’re looking for better ways to recognize them.

The first of these initiatives is the expansion of the POAP program, which allows translators to claim different POAPs based on the number of words they translate this year.

Additional information about the POAP program

In the fourth quarter of this year, we plan to add a translator leaderboard and approval page to the translation program page. This allows us to showcase all of our contributors on our website and highlight some of our outstanding translators.

We’ll also be exploring issuing credentials to key contributors and other forms of assurance, so let us know what’s most important to you!

Translation Program Resources

Going forward, we will continue to build out our translator resources to provide more information about participating in the program and using Crowdin.

This makes it easier to onboard new translators and provides contributors with additional context on translation rules, terminology, and project-specific guidelines, making their jobs easier and delivering higher quality, more consistent translations.

In addition to resources for translators, we will create documentation detailing our workflow and translation process to support other translation initiatives in the Ethereum ecosystem. The goal here is to enable internationalization support to be added to more Ethereum projects by building a playbook with step-by-step instructions for starting and managing a translation program.

participate

2021 has been a productive year and our translation program has seen significant growth. We are truly grateful for the level of support we have received and would like to thank all of our translators who help us make ethereum.org accessible to everyone.

If you’d like to get involved, you can find more information on how to get started on our website. Translation program pagejoin us discord server Or join our project In Crowdin.
