Five years ago today, Ethereumโs Genesis Block announced the official launch of the network.
Most community members today spend time thinking about the work that remains. But as we celebrate Ethereumโs fifth anniversary, itโs also important for us all to recognize how incredibly far weโve come and what a wild adventure every change has been. Then came the turn, and how much we all (and technology) have grown.
Sometimes it was like that. hope Maybe the protocol runs as intended, maybe a builder wants to run their first application, maybe a user wants to try out that application, maybe someone will one day use Ethereum to make a real, positive impact. It will.
So the focus will remain on everything that remains, but even five years ago it would have been difficult to imagine all the thinkers, doers, students, governments, businesses, and other innovators who are using Ethereum today to create real, impactful change. The same goes for the unexpected collisions, turning points, surprising gatherings/events, memes, and passionate discussions you’ll see along the way. None of us around this community would be where we are today if we didn’t. “unexpected” moment ๐.
Everyone who makes up the Ethereum ecosystem was once waiting for the first contract to come online. Today there are millions! And we have now long since lost track of the number of applications that have become unmapped stars for us. It is difficult for even the most dedicated followers to track protocol-level innovations as they occur.
Over the past five years, Ethereum has grown more than any developer, team, or organization. But I hope it inspires you to continue working together to make Ethereum everything we all dream of. ๐ฆ
