The world of football is witnessing an incredible convergence of sporting and digital innovations with the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup Saudi Arabia 2023™. In a groundbreaking move, FIFA+ Collect is teaming up with tech company Modex to launch a series of exclusive digital collectibles. This initiative marks the start of a new partnership that combines the joy of football with the cutting-edge realm of digital collectibles.

Digital Festival: From Rare Collectibles to Memorable Moments

This unique collection will be released on December 15th with the launch of 100 rare digital collectibles on FIFA Collect+. These collectibles are more than just digital tokens. They add real real-world value to the digital realm by giving owners a unique opportunity to secure tickets to the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. Accordingly, on December 19, an additional 900 digital collectibles will be released on the Polygon network, available through the OpenSea platform. This extensive collection encapsulates the spirit and memorable moments of the FIFA Club World Cup and transforms them into precious digital keepsakes.

Global football giants gather in Jeddah

Seven of the world’s best football teams will participate in the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins on December 12 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. These teams represent all major football regions, including Auckland City (New Zealand), Fluminense (Brazil), Manchester City, Urawa Reds (Japan), León (Mexico), Al Ahly (Egypt) and local Saudi Arabian team Al. Ittihad. This event not only showcases the pinnacle of club football, but also serves as the backdrop for this innovative digital venture.

Voices from the field: FIFA and Modex on new initiatives

Romy Gai, FIFA’s Chief Business Officer, expressed tremendous excitement about this innovative journey with Modex, which aims to take the FIFA+ Collect platform to new heights. According to Gai, the platform has become popular globally, allowing fans around the world to own a piece of football history. Francesco Abbate, CEO of Modex, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the opportunity for fans to further engage with their favorite sport through these digital collectibles. He noted that this collaboration is only the first step in the journey to further increase fan involvement in FIFA matches and initiatives.

Impact of Web3 technology on sports

This partnership between Modex and FIFA demonstrates the potential of Web3 technology to transform fan engagement and participation in sports. The Algorand-backed FIFA+ collectibles platform, launched in September 2022, has already facilitated 11 NFT drops, with over 909,255 digital collectibles minted and trading volume reaching $2.4 million. However, it’s important to remember that there are some issues with tracking the exact nature of the transaction, as FIFA+ information gathering cannot differentiate between packs obtained for free and those purchased with USDC.
