FTX’s former engineering chief asked the judge to spare him the prison sentence, according to lawyers representing him.
According to Bloomberg, Nishad Singh’s attorney submitted a memo to a Manhattan federal judge arguing that he deserves a lighter sentence due to his limited role in the cryptocurrency exchange collapse and the “exemplary life he is committed to leading.” I did it.
“His circumstances are unique in every way that matters to sentencing. Examples include his personal history and character, his role in the crimes charged, his speed of cooperation, his response to the FTX collapse, and how he has rebuilt his life since then. ” his attorney wrote.
They also described him as an “unusually altruistic individual” and said his “role was much more limited than that of the other defendants.”
In February 2023, Singh was accused of withdrawing $6 million in client funds from FTX to Alameda Research. He pleaded guilty to six criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit fraud and money laundering.
Singh also testified against his former boss and CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, in October.
Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of fraud and conspiracy. Caroline Ellison, the former CEO of Alameda Research, was sentenced to 24 months in prison last September. Former FTX executive Ryan Salame was sentenced to 90 months in prison in May.
Singh is scheduled to be sentenced on October 30.
