The Pudgy Penguins’ waddling friends are waddling into a new virtual world – a mobile-based video game.
An immersive mobile app based on a collection of penguin-themed NFTs and toys is scheduled to launch in 2025, Mythical Marketplace, which is developing the game, said in a statement Thursday. The AAA game will be built on Mythos Chain, a Polkadot-based network that also hosts the popular Web3 game NFL Rivals.
“Pudgy Penguins is the only web3 project to truly go mainstream, with amazing retail partnerships with Walmart and Target and a fast-growing social media following,” said Mythical Games CEO John Linden. “The Mythical Platform, which is already used by millions of consumers, and building it through Mythical Games on the Mythos Chain will be a key driver in further expanding web3 to mainstream consumers.”
In the coming months, Pudgy Penguins owners will have access to exclusive mobile game content, including previews of mobile gameplay footage. NFT holders will also have the opportunity to participate in various aspects of the game’s development, according to a statement from Mythical Games.
Development of the mobile app comes after Pudgy Penguins released its desktop-based Pudgy Worlds game earlier this year. It also follows a toy collection last year that launched penguin dolls and other collectibles in about 2,000 Walmart stores.
