Google announced its support for India’s 2024 general elections, leveraging AI and partnerships to provide voters with trustworthy information, fight misinformation, and ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

Google announced its commitment to support India’s 2024 general elections by providing high-quality information to voters, protecting its platform from abuse, and helping users explore AI-generated content. As millions of eligible voters prepare to vote, we are working with the Election Commission of India (ECI) and other organizations to ensure fair and transparent election processes.

One of our key initiatives is to provide voters with useful information through Google’s product features. Google has partnered with ECI to display important voting information in Google Search in both English and Hindi, including how to register and how to vote. YouTube also displays an election information panel to provide users with authoritative election-related content.

To combat misinformation and protect election integrity, we have long-term policies in place across all of our products and services. The company combines human reviewers with advanced AI models to identify and remove content that violates its policies. Google’s Large Language Models (LLMs) are being used to build faster, more adaptable enforcement systems that enable companies to take rapid action against new threats.

Google is also committed to providing transparency in election advertising. Advertisers wishing to run election ads on Google platforms must undergo an identity verification process and submit a pre-certification issued by ECI. Additionally, Google has a policy prohibiting ads that promote patently false claims that could undermine trust or participation in elections.

To further support the fight against misinformation, Google is collaborating with the broader ecosystem through initiatives such as the Google News Initiative Education Network, the Fact Check Explorer tool, and partnering with fact-checking organizations such as Shakti, the Indian election fact-checking group. I’m doing it.

As the use of artificial intelligence in content creation becomes more common, Google is taking steps to help users explore AI-generated content. The company has introduced new tools and policies, such as ad disclosure for election ads containing synthetic content, content labels on YouTube, and limiting election-related queries in AI products like Gemini.

Google is also participating in industry collaborations, such as the C2PA Alliance and Standards, to provide more transparency and context to AI-generated content. The company has pledged to deploy technology to counter harmful AI-generated content intended to deceive voters as part of its ‘Technology Agreement to Prevent Fraudulent Use of AI in the 2024 Elections.’

As the 2024 Indian general elections approach, our efforts to support democratic processes through technology, partnerships, and initiatives aim to ensure voters have access to trustworthy information and elections remain fair and transparent.
