Google’s cloud division has launched a new blockchain remote procedure call (RPC) service to support Web3 development.
At launch, Google Cloud’s “Blockchain RPC” service will support the Ethereum mainnet and test network, with plans to expand support for additional blockchain networks over the next year. It will compete with existing RPC providers such as Infura, Alchemy, QuickNode, Ankr, and RPC, allowing developers to interact with the network without having to run a full node.
This RPC solution allows developers to access blockchain data and functionality via API calls. It is compatible with the Ethereum JSON-RPC standard, allowing developers to integrate the service into existing applications with minimal adjustments.
Google Cloud says its RPC service targets a wide range of audiences, from startups needing a simple entry point into the blockchain space to large enterprises that need a reliable, high-performance infrastructure solution.
The company has launched a free tier of service that allows up to 100 requests per second, which it says is enough for building real-time and data-intensive applications.
Google Cloud already offers other blockchain-centric infrastructure services, including node hosting and data analytics for several blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, and Aptos.
