The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has announced the expansion of its one-stop dataset of retail banking facilities through the introduction of additional spatial datasets. The initiative, which launched on December 9, 2024, aims to improve public access to banking information through open application programming interfaces (APIs), according to the HKMA.
Comprehensive banking data
A newly available dataset provides detailed information on five types of self-service banking machines operated by 20 retail banks in Hong Kong. These include cash deposit machines, check deposit machines, integrated cash and check deposit machines, passbook updating machines, and video deposit and withdrawal machines. This expansion complements the two previously released datasets, now forming three comprehensive datasets on physical banking facilities.
Strengthening branch and ATM information
In addition to the new dataset, HKMA has enhanced existing datasets from physical branches and automated teller machines (ATMs). The updated information now includes details on branch fault tolerance and specific currencies that can be deposited and withdrawn at ATMs, improving the comprehensiveness of the database.
Encouraging Innovation
HKMA encourages application developers, technology service providers, and the general public to utilize these open datasets. By leveraging this data, we can develop innovative applications and solutions to benefit the wider community and improve the banking experience in Hong Kong.
Datasets can be accessed and downloaded from HKMA’s open API portal, facilitating access and integration into a variety of technology applications.
