The Hong Kong Monetary Authority warns the public about a fraudulent website linked to DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited and provides safety guidelines.
According to an official press release from the HKMA, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a cautionary statement to alert the public to a fraudulent website impersonating DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited.
Details of fraudulent activity
The HKMA reported that these fraudulent websites were brought to the attention of DBS Bank (Hong Kong) Limited. The websites in question are designed to trick users into providing sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs).
HKMA’s advice
HKMA emphasizes that legitimate banks will never send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks that direct users to the bank’s website for transactions. Banks also reiterate that they will never request sensitive personal information via phone, email or SMS, including embedded hyperlinks.
Steps for Affected Individuals
Any individual who has inadvertently provided personal information or made financial transactions through these fraudulent websites is advised to contact DBS Bank using the contact details provided in the press release. Additionally, affected parties should report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Branch Information Centre (2860 5012).
