The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens impersonating Dah Sing Bank, Limited. This warning is issued following a press release from Dah Sing Bank reporting these fraudulent activities to the HKMA.
Details of fraudulent activity
According to the HKMA, fraudulent websites and login screens are designed to trick users into providing sensitive personal information, including login passwords and one-time passwords (OTPs). These fake websites may also trick users into making financial transactions, compromising their personal and financial security.
HKMA’s public consultation
The HKMA stressed that legitimate banks will not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks instructing customers to conduct transactions. Banks also will not request sensitive personal information such as login credentials or OTPs via phone, email or SMS. The public is advised to be cautious about any unsolicited communication requesting such information.
Steps to take if your security is compromised
Any individual who inadvertently provided personal information or conducted a transaction through such fraudulent website or login screen should immediately contact Dah Sing Bank using the contact details provided in the bank’s press release. They should also report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Information Centre at 2860 5012.
