The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has warned the public about fraudulent social media accounts and phishing messages linked to Singapore banks.

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning about fraudulent social media accounts and phishing instant messages linked to Bank of Singapore Limited, according to the HKMA’s official website. The scam involves fraudulent messages and fake social media profiles aimed at obtaining sensitive information from bank customers.

Details of fraudulent activity

The HKMA emphasizes that fraudulent activity has been reported by Bank of Singapore Limited. Fake social media accounts and phishing messages attempt to mislead customers into providing personal information such as login credentials and one-time passwords (OTPs). The HKMA emphasizes that the bank does not send emails or SMS messages with embedded hyperlinks for transactions or request sensitive information.

Public advice

HKMA strongly advises the public to be cautious about any unsolicited communication requesting personal information or directing to unknown websites. Customers are reminded to contact their bank directly using official contact details to verify the authenticity of any message purporting to be from their bank.

Furthermore, the HKMA urges anyone who disclosed personal information or conducted financial transactions in response to these fraudulent messages to immediately contact their Singapore bank and report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Investigation Information Centre at 2860 5012.

Additional Actions and Recommendations

HKMA closely monitors the situation and works with relevant authorities to protect consumers from such fraudulent activities. The public is advised to keep informed of the latest frauds and refer to the HKMA website for updates.

For further information, please refer to the official press release on the HKMA website.
