The Hong Kong Monetary Authority is warning the public about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens linked to Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited.

Fraudulent websites and internet banking concerns

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a warning about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens linked to Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Asia) Limited (ICBC Asia). According to the HKMA, these scams have been reported to authorities and the public has been warned.

Public advice on online banking safety

HKMA emphasizes that legitimate banks, including ICBC Asia, will not send SMS or emails containing hyperlinks directing customers to conduct transactions on the website. Additionally, the bank will never ask you for sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords via phone, email or SMS, including through embedded links. The purpose of this advisory is to protect consumers from potential phishing scams and unauthorized access to their financial information.

Action for Affected Individuals

Individuals who suspect that they have provided personal information or made financial transactions through these fraudulent sites are encouraged to contact ICBC Asia using the contact information provided in the bank’s official press release. You are also encouraged to report such incidents to the Hong Kong Police Crime Branch Information Center at 2860 5012.

HKMA’s ongoing commitment to cyber security

This alert is part of the HKMA’s ongoing efforts to protect the public from cybersecurity threats and fraudulent activities. Authorities regularly update and educate consumers on the importance of remaining vigilant when engaging in online banking activities. The HKMA’s commitment to consumer protection is evident through its active dissemination of information and guidance to prevent cybercrime.

More detailed information can be found on the HKMA official website.
