The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a public warning about fraudulent social media accounts and phishing instant messages related to Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), according to a press release from the HKMA. These fraudulent activities have been reported to the HKMA and are being investigated.

The HKMA warning includes a reminder that banks generally do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks that direct customers to their websites for transactions. Banks also do not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) via phone calls, emails or SMS, including information with embedded links.
Public advice
Members of the public who provided personal information or made financial transactions in response to fraudulent social media accounts or phishing messages should immediately contact Royal Bank of Canada using the contact details provided in the official press release. Individuals are also encouraged to report incidents to the Hong Kong Police Force Crime Commission Information Centre at 2860 5012.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has stressed the importance of vigilance and awareness in combating such scams, urging the public to be cautious if they are not asked to provide personal information or financial transactions.
