The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has issued a warning about fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens linked to China CITIC Bank International Limited. The warning aims to protect the public from potential financial fraud, as highlighted in the bank’s recent press release.
Fraudulent websites and login screens
According to the HKMA, fraudulent websites and login screens have been reported and the public should be vigilant. The scam site mimics China CITIC Bank’s legitimate internet banking platform, potentially tricking users into revealing sensitive personal information.

The HKMA emphasizes that legitimate banks will never send SMS or emails containing hyperlinks directing customers to their website for transactions. Additionally, the bank does not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords (OTP) via phone, email or SMS. Customers are advised to exercise caution in such communications and not click on any links contained therein.
Action for Affected Individuals
Individuals who have inadvertently provided personal information or made financial transactions through fraudulent websites or login screens are encouraged to contact China CITIC Bank immediately using the contact information provided in the official press release. Affected people should also report the incident to the Hong Kong Police Crime Investigation Unit Information Center at 2860 5012.
