Ape to Cryptocurrency in a Gaming Ecosystem, Not a ‘Single-Player Game’ Token — YGG exec
Serge-Raymond Nzabandora, corporate development and finance manager at Yield Guild Games, says cryptocurrency traders looking to make smarter bets on gaming tokens should choose tokens that are tied to the entire ecosystem, not just individual games.
“I think single-player games with token releases are more likely to be forgotten. Right? I want to look at the ecosystem players compared to the Ronins of the world and the Immutables of the world,” he tells Web3 Gamer.
Ronin Network and Immutable Games are blockchain gaming platforms designed to support developers building games with a player-owned economy.
Nzabandora says both are “able to maintain these high market capitalizations by having original new content.” According to CoinMarketCap data, Immutable (IMX) has a market cap of $3.48 billion and Ronin (RON) has a market cap of $848.38 million.
“Whether Ronins or Axis come back or not, the pixels are still there,” he says.
Pixel is a laid-back adventure game that has become one of the biggest Web3 games by daily active users. In May, daily active users surpassed 1 million.
Nzabandora sees the surge in AI memecoins as a sign of growing interest in narratives, which could lead to a “bigger push for games” as narratives.
He believes the current cycle will play out differently because “the market is much smarter than the previous one.” This means that your funds and interest are now spread across a variety of tokens.
“The increase in liquidity was not proportional to the increase in tokens, so the mind share was split incredibly correctly,” he says.
“People who blindly make choices without understanding basic token economics… It will look red.”
Alliestrasza claims Web2 colleagues think he is doing ‘evil things’.
Popular Web3 games reviewer and content creator Alliestraza made the leap from traditional Web2 game content about a year ago, but he still doesn’t quite fit in with his former colleagues.
“My colleagues at Web2 continue to think I’m doing something nefarious by supporting cryptocurrency and blockchain games,” she told Web3 Gamer at the recent YGG Play Summit in the Philippines.
“There have been a lot of scams in this space, so if you don’t take the time to look at projects that are making good things, their impression is not good,” says the 31-year-old gamer. Los Angeles.
Alliestraza made the switch because she wanted to be rewarded for all the time and money she invested in the game.
“I invested thousands of dollars (in the game) that I could never extract,” she told Game7 DAO in April 2023, explaining the leap.
Now she’s getting rewarded for playing games, unlike her Web2 gamer friends who are basically volunteering for multi-billion dollar companies, and she’s also getting tons of views on her content.

Cryptocurrency in the Philippines: Necessity is the Mother of Adoption
As an ambassador for the sci-fi card game Parallel, she creates fun and educational gaming content and has built a strong online following with 113,000 YouTube subscribers, over 16.5 million video views, and 235,000 Twitch followers.
Despite competing at a high level, Alliestraza prefers creating content to participating in gaming tournaments.
“I still enjoy competing and doing a lot of things in Hearthstone, but I think I’ve realized that what I enjoy most is having fun and connecting with people,” she adds.
“I get to be on camera interacting with people, and honestly, I think that’s where I shine,” she says.
Alliestraza says narration keeps you focused on the action the whole time.
“Sometimes when you compete, you lose immediately and are eliminated completely. But if you are the caster and narrator, you are there for the entire experience,” she says.
Do Web3 gamers have coaches? It’s rough but totally true
The convention’s gaming tournaments are much more competitive than you might expect. But to an outsider, what’s the strangest part? Gamers actually have coaches. Like a sports team or a friend who is interested in health.
At the YGG Play Summit, Web3 gaming coach Muka describes the job as “a glorified project manager.”
“Being a coach doesn’t mean you come up with all the ideas,” says the former top 200 World of Warcraft player.
They also don’t seem to have a rigorous training schedule like Manchester United football club players.
He laughs and explains that it was more of an organic process as they trained together on Parallel, the aforementioned sci-fi card game.
“There are times when we take a break. You don’t have to be on rapid speed, but once you start rapid, your Discord calls will go on for hours a day, people popping in and out, scrimming, playing different games, talking about ideas.”
He called it a “trial by fire” and said that when players get a new idea, it’s better to jump in and try it out instead of overthinking it.

“The players are there. They all have their own ideas and are experts in what they want to do.”
“It’s about taking ideas from the best of players and helping them transform those ideas together, creating lineup strategies and transferring one person’s expertise to another,” he explains.
Muka says that’s “where the magic happens.”
“The feeling of playing with other people, coming up with a strategy and trying to make it work has always been the most fun for me,” he says.
As for how many hours a week gaming coaches spend training players before tournaments, Muka doesn’t want to face that reality.
“You can’t calculate quantities in a few hours. “I think it would break my heart if I told you,” he said with a laugh.
