For decades, casino games asked players to press a button and wait. A new game from Joy Studios and Cloudbet asks them to walk into a haunted house instead.
The first thing you notice in Fearshot: Phantom Mansion is that nothing is spinning.
There are no reels and no ball dropping through pegs. There is a grand foyer, dimly lit, and the ghost of a drowned servant girl drifting near the stairs. You raise the Phantom Blaster, pick a target and pull the trigger. Every ghost carries a number. Hit it, and that number is your multiplier. Miss, and your stake is gone. Either way, you know at once, and you are already looking for the next ghost.
It plays like a first-person shooter. It is a casino game. Fearshot: Phantom Mansion, built by Joy Studios and launching exclusively in Cloudbet’s casino lobby on 28 October, is the first of what the two companies call Immersive World Betting: games where the player moves through a 3D world, and every choice in that world is a bet.
From the reel to the room
For most of their history, casino games have been things you watch. A slot spins. A roulette ball settles. Even the instant games that took over crypto casinos, such as Plinko, Mines and crash games like Aviator, are built around one decision and a short wait.
Video games went the other way. Players got bodies, spaces to cross and worlds to get lost in. A generation grew up inside those worlds, and some of them now want their casino games to feel the same.
“Slots and games like Plinko, Mines and Aviator will always be around,” said Will Cordry, Games Product Manager at Joy Studios. “They’re great, and players love them. But with the ability to build games at speed, we’re going to see a lot more of this new breed of game.”
That speed is what changed. A 3D world used to need a large team and years of work. New tools, AI among them, now let a small studio build one far faster. A casino game no longer has to be a screen with buttons. It can be a place.
“The way things are going, the next GTA VI could come from a casino,” Cordry said. “Maybe it even has some non-betting play mixed with casino mechanics. But we’re moving in a direction where you don’t just sit and spin a slot. You take part in the action, you move through space, and you’re immersed in the world you’re betting in.”
Inside the mansion
Phantom Mansion’s story reads like a horror film. The house was once famous for its parties. Then came a final dinner: the Head Mistress had her own son and granddaughter poisoned, and the Wailing Widow, mad with grief, called up demons for revenge. The ritual failed, and no one ever left. The player arrives as a bounty hunter whose weapon turns captured souls into gold.
Every room has its ghost. Goodnight Dolly, a girl bound to a porcelain doll, waits in the Toy Room beside her father, now a ventriloquist’s dummy. Chef DeVour still cooks the meal that killed him. Mr. Razorburn haunts the Boiler Room with blades for fingers. Each ghost carries a multiplier, each captured soul builds a running soul multiplier, and a Soul Collector gives a second chance at a bigger win.
Some things hunt back. The Wailing Widow appears without warning, and every hit on her pays 1.1x. The Inquisitor follows players from room to room and pays 350x to anyone who brings him down. A shot in the Secret Altar Room can summon the final judge, Sister Penance, and her seven faceless Bailiffs, each holding a prize of up to 50x.
It is closer to a horror game than to a slot. That is the point.
The first of a new breed
Cloudbet sees its own players in this shift. “Our players grew up in first-person worlds. Now they can bet in one,” said a spokesperson for Cloudbet. “Fearshot: Phantom Mansion is the first Immersive World Betting game, and it won’t be the last. We want Cloudbet to be where players find this new breed of game first.”
Fearshot is meant to be a series, not a single title. The two companies plan more Fearshot games, each set in a new world. Until the next one opens, Cloudbet’s in-house Cloudbet Originals, including Plinko and Mines, cover the faster end of the lobby.
The doors open on 28 October 2026, three days before Halloween. Cloudbet will mark the launch with two leaderboard events: Open House, a 24-hour race with a $5,000 prize pool, and The Haunting Hour on Halloween, with $20,000 for the top 30 players and $1,500 more for the top three Wailing Widow hunters. Prizes are paid in USDT.
Fearshot: Phantom Mansion is available exclusively on Cloudbet. Full terms apply. Players must be 18+ and in a jurisdiction where Cloudbet accepts players.
