Inferno Drainer, one of the most popular cryptocurrency wallet drain kits, says it will be shutting down for good after helping phishers steal about $70 million worth of cryptocurrency this year.
“It’s time for us to move on,” the Inferno Drainer team said in a November 26 Telegram post. However, it said the files and infrastructure needed to run the wallet drainer will not be destroyed, but instead will remain active to allow users to make a “seamless transition” to other services.
“It’s been a long journey with all of you. Thank you very much (sic). Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever.”
“A huge thank you to everyone who worked with us,” he added. “We want you to remember us as the best water drainers that ever existed and that we succeeded in making money.”
Inferno Drainer gained attention earlier this year and has seen increased use since the popular Monkey Drainer tool was shut down. Like its peers, Inferno provided software that drained cryptocurrency wallets and took 20% of what users stole.
Since February, Inferno Drainer has stolen about $70 million from more than 100,000 victims, according to an analysis by Web3 anti-fraud platform Scam Sniffer. However, the Inferno Drainer team estimated that the stolen amount was over $80 million.
The Inferno Drainer team has deleted the affiliate Telegram account “mr_inferno_drainer” used to prepare the service and warned users not to trust other drainers using their name in the future.

Blockchain security company CertiK told Cointelegraph that Inferno Drainer is “one of the most damaging phishing kits to the community we have seen.”
There are still “many providers” active, including rivals Pink Drainer and Angel Drainer, which allows users to drain their wallets on more blockchains. We released an update on November 25th.
Monkey Drainer, another high-profile cryptocurrency drain that stole millions of dollars, shut down in March, saying “it’s time to move on to better things.”
