“Given everything that happened last year, we need to do everything in a positive way as much as possible,” Buterin says in the final part of the documentary, which was filmed in May 2023. “But what I fear most is a bull market. If a bull market happens, all that speculation will come back. There is value in being quiet, and there is value in not making a big deal until something worth making a big deal about.”
The world’s second-largest blockchain recently “celebrated” its 9th birthday. The price of its native cryptocurrency, Ether, peaked in November 2021 at around $4,300. According to The Block’s price page, ETH is trading at around $2,535 at the time of publication.
The film was directed by Jack Ingras and Chris Temple and produced by Carrie Weprin and Jenna Kelly. This piece was created by Optimist and Strange Design in collaboration with Lone Palm Productions, Big Beach, and TIME Studios.
““By partnering with Base and 0x | Matcha, our goal is to put control of films in the hands of people, rather than the big distributors,” said producer Carrie Weprin. “For too long, film distribution has been controlled by a small number of powerful intermediaries, leaving creators with little control over the reach and monetization of their work.“
Optimist is a non-profit production studio that airs films on Netflix, PBS, and HBO. 0x helps developers build tools to embed swaps and gasless trading into Web 3.0 apps.
“This film is for everyone: the community, the crypto-curious, and the skeptics,” Ingrasi said. “We’ll be the first to admit that this film can’t capture the entire story of Ethereum. The ecosystem is too diverse and vast for one film. But seeing the community through Vitalik’s eyes helps make the story accessible and human.”
