Kraken Wallet now offers encrypted iCloud backups for Secret Recovery Phrase (SRP). This feature provides a simple and secure way to store SRP and recover your wallet, helping you always have access to your cryptocurrency assets.
Self-custody with peace of mind
Kraken Wallet users enjoy the freedom of self-management and full control of their funds. However, with this authority comes the responsibility to protect the SRP. SRP, also known as seed phrase or mnemonic phrase, is a set of randomly generated words permanently associated with a cryptocurrency wallet that allows users to access, restore, or migrate that cryptocurrency wallet.
If you don’t have access to your wallet and don’t have SRP, you won’t be able to recover your assets. The most common way to save your SRP is to write it down manually and keep it in a safe place. We encourage all of our users to take this important step, while also providing you with added peace of mind. That’s why we introduced encrypted iCloud backups.
This new feature encrypts the 12-word SRP and stores it securely in a unique encryption key. With the iCloud Keychain infrastructure, your passkeys are automatically synced across all your devices. This means you no longer have to worry about lost or new devices.
Recovery is simple. Import your iCloud backup with just a few taps. You also always have the option to retrieve SRP manually.

We designed the iCloud backup feature to take advantage of cutting-edge security features.
- Encrypted cloud recovery using secret keys with the Large Blob extension for iOS. Compatible with iOS 17 and above
- The Large Blob extension allows you to securely store user-specific data cryptographically bound to Passkey credentials. (Your SRP is stored directly with your passkey)
- This data can only be retrieved if the user successfully authenticates with the secret key.
What does all this mean? You don’t have to trust Kraken or Apple to make sure your secret recovery phrase is stored safely.. Simply put, Only you Press the key to view and use SRP. Apple can’t see it, and neither can we.

Create a backup
Whether you’re a new or existing user, Kraken Wallet makes creating backups quick and easy.
New users simply Backup to iCloud Please select an option when creating your wallet. You will then have the option to manually back up your secret recovery phrase for added security.
Existing users can go to Settings and Backup to iCloud Select an option to get started.
Get a backup
Simply tap. import Press the button and select Import from iCloud.
