We are excited to announce Kraken Labs, initially released as a set of five interactive data visualization modules created by staff designer Benno Gerrit Wissing.

These experiments explore the infinite possibilities of crypto data visualization, leveraging both data from Kraken and on-chain data. These range from highly exploratory and abstract 3D real-time data visualizations to insight-driven experiments using time series clustering and pattern recognition.

We decided to make this public to share its possibilities with the wider crypto community and build on our growing set of data visualization experiments.

Kraken Labs currently includes the following experiments:

Customizable 3D objects representing each Kraken market. These objects use visual cues to convey the temporal evolution of real-time market data.

This experiment visualizes multiple markets by encoding various market data dimensions (volume, variance, high/low range, spread, minute market updates) as 3D object properties (size, color, noise scale, noise intensity, noise speed) to provide quick insights into activity at a glance.

Markets are grouped by similar chart patterns. This provides a meta view of the markets, and instead of analyzing Kraken’s (nearly 300) individual USD markets, the algorithm groups these markets into 2-6 major groups that evolve similarly, which is useful for diversification purposes.

An additional “List View” sorts markets by their similarity to all analyzed markets, making it easy to identify anomalous (low similarity) and typical (high similarity) markets.

Analysis that visually reveals chart patterns within individual Kraken USD markets. These patterns highlight repetitive, unusual, and evolving sequences over the past day to a year. Each pattern type can be examined in more detail by hovering over or selecting it on the chart and interacting with it.

In the detailed pattern view, instances of repeating patterns are overlaid on each other to easily see how similar they are, while evolving patterns are stacked on top of each other to visualize changes over time. Patterns of varying widths (e.g., close price data points) can be identified based on user preference.

This visualization displays daily live streaming candlesticks for all USD trading pairs on the Kraken exchange. The candles are marked with Kraken’s iconic beast logo.

Selecting an individual asset will reveal an interactive 3D candlestick chart for that market, allowing you to examine it in detail. This allows you to see the performance of all Kraken markets individually at once in a concise and attractive way.

A tool that visualizes the on-chain transaction flow between addresses as a network. Each node represents an address and each edge represents a transaction. Any address node and transaction edge can be selected to retrieve additional information.

The selected node highlights the transaction flow from that address. The graph shows a visual story about the address and its trading partners.

Leveraging our cryptographic expertise for the benefit of our customers

As one of the oldest exchanges in the crypto industry, we have accumulated a wealth of crypto knowledge. With the development of Kraken Labs, we are committed to leveraging this knowledge to empower our clients and provide them with cutting-edge tools and services to better navigate the markets.

We encourage you to share your feedback on these modules, which can be found on each individual module page. Your feedback is important in shaping Kraken Labs experiments.

This initial module is just the beginning. Kraken Labs is pushing the boundaries of data visualization to discover a new framework for analyzing the cryptocurrency markets. Expect more visually stunning experiments within Kraken Labs and possible integrations with the entire product line.
