Japan is leveraging AI to revolutionize healthcare through advances in drug discovery, robotics, and digital health platforms showcased at the NVIDIA AI Summit Japan.
Japan is leading the way in integrating artificial intelligence into healthcare systems, focusing on drug design, robotics, and digital health platforms. According to the NVIDIA blog, these developments were highlighted at the recent NVIDIA AI Summit Japan, which highlighted the country’s commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of its aging population.
AI-based new drug discovery
Japan’s pharmaceutical industry, one of the world’s largest, is being transformed by AI technologies such as NVIDIA’s BioNeMo platform. This platform allows researchers to develop AI models for biomolecular data interpretation, significantly improving the drug discovery process. New models such as AlphaFold2 and DiffDock are being leveraged to predict molecular interactions and design new protein structures, accelerating the research and development of biopharmaceuticals.

The University of Tokyo’s Human Genome Center is also leveraging NVIDIA Parabricks to accelerate genomic analysis and contribute to the development of precision treatments tailored to the Japanese population.

In the field of medical imaging, companies such as Fujifilm and Olympus are developing AI applications to assist surgeons and radiologists. These innovations include converting CT images into 3D simulations and leveraging cloud-connected endoscopes for real-time image processing.
