From the explosion of scalability and the Layer 2 ecosystem to the first Devcon in three years and The Merge, this has been an exciting year for Ethereum and ethereum.org. We’ve launched tons of impactful features and content, and have thousands of amazing contributors helping us.

Let’s take a look at the highlights for 2022.

Translation program 🌎

It’s important to get your educational Ethereum content in as many languages as possible. Our team’s vision for ethereum.org. Our amazing community of contributors has come a long way since then. We have become a multilingual website In 2019 and into 2022, we were excited to see the number of people contributing to our translation program continue to grow and the number of readers in languages other than English soar.

2022 in numbers

  • 3,000 new translators have joined.
  • 4.6 million words translated
  • 28% of visits are in a language other than English (double the 2021 high)

Please help translate ethereum.org

While there is a lot to celebrate in 2022, there is still a long way to go to bring Ethereum education to the non-English speaking world. If you speak a language other than English, check out our translation program to help make ethereum.org more accessible to everyone!

Join the translation program

Ethereum.org is the work of thousands of amazing contributors, and every contribution helps us build a great resource for the community. As with the translation program, ethereum.org has seen outstanding participation in many other community-driven initiatives. By 2022, Discord reached 37,000 members and Crowdin reached 7,000 members. 1,000 total contributors on GitHub!

Specifically, between us Typescript launched and UI library migrationWe had over 50 code contributors 🤯!

As for content, there were also dozens of contributors who helped write new pages on ethereum.org. It included the following pages: Blockchain Bridge, Desi, decentralized identityAnd many more!

We can’t emphasize enough how grateful we are to all our contributors ❤️. If you would like to contribute and help build ethereum.org in 2023, Check out our Q1 roadmap.

Open design system 📐

Since May 2022, we have been working on creating the ethereum.org design system. It took a lot of work to get the design to where it is now, and we’re excited to share it with you. We plan to begin implementing code to support the new design system in the first quarter of 2023.

One of the most important goals in creating a design system is to provide designers with a way to contribute to the open source Ethereum community. In 2023, we will continue to work with the community to open up our design process to the community.

There are a lot of new pages 🥳

2022 was the year with the most new content on ethereum.org. We’ve addressed many content gaps and delivered informative, well-received pages that have been read by over a million people.

There are too many pages to list everything here (there are currently over 300 pages on the website!), but here are the highlights:

  • layer 2: Teach users why Ethereum scales through rollups and how to onboard to Layer 2.
  • run node: Highlights the value of running a node (both for those running their own nodes and for Ethereum in general) and provides readers with step-by-step resources to get started running their own nodes.
  • staking hub: Easily explains the staking process and the key benefits of different staking approaches.
  • Introduction to Web3: Explains the principles and philosophy of Web3 and its current limitations.
  • energy consumption: Shows Ethereum’s current and past energy consumption and the impact The Merge has had.

In 2023, we will continue to work with the community and subject matter experts within the Ethereum ecosystem to fill gaps and provide high-value content to our readers. If you would like to help, Contact us on Discord.

You can see what we’re doing next. Quarterly Roadmapor you can create a problem If you have content you would like to add to ethereum.org.

Find your wallet revamp 👛

Another big milestone for 2022 was the revamp of wallet content. A significant portion of the traffic to ethereum.org comes from users trying to get their first wallet. The previous Find a Wallet page required a lot of work to compare the different features wallets offered, making it difficult for users to decide which wallet best suited their needs.

After several design iterations, we succeeded in creating an e-commerce-like experience that allows users to filter wallets by specific features, compare features between wallets, and select user personas with recommended features.

Check out our wallet finder page. We love feedback. let me know what you think on our discord.

Learn Hub and Quiz 🧠

There is a constant influx of new users looking to learn about Ethereum. In 2022, we’ve invested a lot of time into providing a better experience for these users. Creating easy-to-understand content is a driving principle in everything we do, but these two initiatives were particularly focused on a select group of users.

learning hub

we made learning hub We wanted to help users find a starting point for learning about Ethereum without being overwhelmed by the amount of information available and the disconnect between multiple pages of the website. Learn Hub is a guided path for users that starts with the basics of what cryptocurrency is, guides you through getting started with Ethereum with your first wallet, and teaches you how the Ethereum protocol works and how you can participate in the ecosystem.

learning quiz

With Learn Hub, we wanted to not only provide a structured learning path, but also make learning about Ethereum more fun for our users, increase retention, and gamify the process. For this purpose, we created a study quiz. Each quiz has multiple questions and multiple potential answers along with an explanation after you submit your answer to help teach users when they get a question wrong.

We currently have 8 pages of study quizzes, and we plan to expand to more features and pages in 2023. It’s really fun! Take a look:

Merge 🌳

Without a doubt, the biggest Ethereum event of 2022 will be absorption. As part of our preparation for The Merge, we audited our entire website for content that would need to change following Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake.

In addition to auditing and updating hundreds of pages of existing content, we’ve created many new pages to reflect the changes, including: Proof of Stake Frequently Asked Questions, Proof of Stake vs Proof of Work, How blocks are created in Proof of StakeAnd many more.

For more information, see the three large-scale initiatives we have undertaken related to The Merge.

Other projects 🏃‍♂️

We’ve spent a lot of time supporting the core products at ethereum.org, as well as other projects that are key to Ethereum’s success. I won’t highlight each one in detail, but be sure to check them out!

Looking ahead 🙌

As a result of achieving so much, ethereum.org The community has a lot to be proud of in 2022. Thank you again to the thousands of contributors who participated!

Like Ethereum itself, we still have a long way to go to continue building the most comprehensive and comprehensive resource for Ethereum on the internet.

To do that, we need your help! we just launched Q1 Product Roadmap. Check it out and let us know how you would like to get involved 🙏
