According to Speechify, Medium has partnered with Speechify to introduce an innovative feature that allows users to listen to articles. The collaboration aims to provide a new dimension to consuming stories on the platform by improving content accessibility.
Audio accessibility for midsize members
Medium members can now listen to articles read aloud by a narrator of their choice using the “Listen” button at the top of most stories. This feature is part of Medium’s Listen initiative, designed to make content more accessible and engaging for users who prefer to consume audio. Non-members are encouraged to join Medium to access this feature.
Strengthening content consumption
Since the introduction of audio capabilities, the amount of content users consume has increased significantly, and the number of stories users engage with has reportedly tripled. This feature allows members to listen to articles while performing other tasks, such as commuting to work or exercising, seamlessly integrating into a variety of daily activities.
Improved retention and productivity
Users have reported improved memory when listening and reading simultaneously, thanks to Speechify’s ability to highlight text as it is read out loud. This dual mode of content consumption provides a more immersive experience, helping you better understand and retain information.
Speed Listening and Proofreading
This feature also supports fast listening, allowing playback speeds up to 4.5 times the standard speed, which many users find helpful for productivity. Writers can also use audio playback to read their work aloud for proofreading, giving them a new perspective on their draft.
Accessibility for everyone
This plan is particularly useful for individuals with dyslexia or visual impairment as it lowers the barriers to access to written content. Medium and Speechify aim to provide a more inclusive reading experience by providing audio alternatives.
Customize your listening experience
Users can choose from different voices and adjust the playback speed to customize their listening experience. These features are accessible through a web browser for logged in Medium members, ensuring a personalized and flexible approach to content consumption.
