The Roaring Kitty-themed memecoin has posted triple-digit gains after GameStop’s stock price soared over the past 24 hours.
Memecoins GME, KITTY, and ROAR are up 160%, 330%, and 150%, respectively, and are currently trading at $0.03088, $0.0377, and $0.001584, according to CoinGecko data.
Shares of GameStop soared in premarket trading Friday after Keith Gill, known as “Roaring Kitty,” revealed plans to make his first YouTube appearance in three years. Gill has previously inspired retail investors to back struggling video game chains.
The Roaring Kitty YouTube channel has over 700,000 subscribers and Gill announced today that she has scheduled a live stream. GameStop’s stock price soared following the announcement, currently up 31% at $61.21 in pre-market trading.
GME is a Solana-based memecoin that uses the same ticker symbol as GameStop stock, but has no official affiliation with the video game retailer. ROAR AND KITTY feature Gill’s Roaring Kitty online persona, who participated in GameStop shorting three years ago but has no formal ties to the investor.
The GMCI Meme Index, which tracks the largest meme coins by market capitalization, was down 1.48% at 366.34 at the time of publication.
