Strategic partnership between NVIDIA and SoftBank
NVIDIA announced a strategic collaboration with SoftBank Corp. in an effort to strengthen Japan’s AI initiatives and strengthen its position in the global technology sector. As reported by NVIDIA Newsroom, this partnership aims to provide significant revenue opportunities to telecom providers around the world.
Building an AI supercomputer in Japan
At the NVIDIA AI Summit in Japan, founder and CEO Jensen Huang said SoftBank is using the NVIDIA Blackwell platform to build Japan’s most powerful AI supercomputer. Plans are also underway to integrate the NVIDIA Grace Blackwell platform into future developments. This initiative is part of SoftBank’s broader strategy to lead in AI infrastructure and services.
Innovative AI-RAN technology
SoftBank leveraged NVIDIA’s AI Aerial platform to pioneer the world’s first AI and 5G communications network. This groundbreaking AI-RAN network is expected to generate billions of dollars in new revenue streams for telecom operators by transforming base stations into AI-driven revenue-generating assets.
SoftBank’s AI Marketplace
SoftBank is working with NVIDIA to develop an AI marketplace using NVIDIA AI Enterprise software. The platform is set to meet Japan’s needs for localized and secure AI computing and support AI training and edge AI inference. This positions SoftBank as a central player in Japan’s AI ecosystem, driving business opportunities across a variety of sectors.
NVIDIA DGX System Deployment
SoftBank was the first to introduce the NVIDIA DGX B200 system, which will be integrated into the DGX SuperPOD supercomputer. This infrastructure will support the development of generative AI for businesses and educational institutions across Japan. DGX SuperPOD is optimized for large-scale language model development by leveraging NVIDIA Quantum-2 InfiniBand networking.
Economic Impact of AI-RAN
The AI-RAN infrastructure developed with NVIDIA will enable telecom operators to leverage excess network capacity for AI inference services. This innovative approach is expected to increase telecom revenues, and SoftBank anticipates a significant return on its investment in AI-RAN infrastructure.
future prospects
SoftBank’s ongoing collaboration with NVIDIA aims to expand AI-RAN capabilities by integrating the NVIDIA Aerial RAN Computer-1 system to increase efficiency. The plan is expected to reduce power consumption and further promote innovation in the telecommunications sector.
