NVIDIA has released JetPack 6.2, which introduces Super Mode functionality to the Jetson Orin Nano and Jetson Orin NX modules to significantly leap forward the AI capabilities of edge devices. According to NVIDIA, the update promises up to a 2x improvement in AI performance, setting a new benchmark for generative AI on small devices.
Super Mode: A New Era of Edge AI
JetPack 6.2’s Super Mode enhances the Jetson Orin module by unlocking higher operating frequencies for CPUs, GPUs, and other processing units, promoting unprecedented AI model performance. This mode introduces new power options, including a 25W mode and unlimited MAXN SUPER mode for the Jetson Orin Nano, while the Orin NX series benefits from a new 40W power mode.
Improve AI model performance
This update is particularly useful for Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision Language Models (VLMs), and Vision Transformers (ViTs), and performance benchmarks show significant benefits. For example, the Jetson Orin Nano 8GB module improved performance from 14 to 19.1 tokens per second on the Llama 3.1 8B model. Likewise, VLMs such as VILA 1.5 3B on the Orin NX 16GB module increase from 1 to 1.3 tokens per second.
Improved power management
JetPack 6.2 includes a power estimation tool that allows developers to design custom power profiles that balance performance and power consumption. This tool helps optimize the power consumption of Jetson Orin modules for specific application requirements, ensuring thermal stability and efficient energy use.

Extending the Jetson Orin product lifecycle to 2032 reflects NVIDIA’s commitment to supporting long-term projects and maintaining leadership in AI hardware.
