Utilizing opacity microbap and BLAS compression, NVIDIA’s new path tracking optimization in Indiana Jones ™ greatly improves GPU performance and reduces VRAM use.

Introduction of path tracking optimization

NVIDIA introduces a series of path tracking optimization in Game Indiana Jones and The Great Circle ™, focusing on improving performance through advanced graphics technology. According to NVIDIA, the latest optimization includes the use of opacity microbap (OMM) and compression of the dynamic lower level acceleration structure (BLASS).

Opaque microbap: game chain for alpha test

An opacity microbap is designed to reduce the GPU time required for light tracking alpha test targets such as vegetation models and significantly improve rendering efficiency. NVIDIA has reduced the GPU time from 7.90mm to 3.58 milliseconds among the Tracemain passes of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPUs by implementing OMMS. This optimization minimizes the necessity of a hit shader (AHS), which is calculated in advance by prior calculating the opacity of the micro triangle.

Dynamic BLASS compression

Dynamic Blance compression is another important optimization applied to the in -game dynamic vegetation model. This process reduces VRAM requirements from 1027MB to 606MB by compressing the initial build and compressing the blade before the update or semi -tide. This allows you to maintain the high quality path tracking of the game even in a limited GPU with a limited VRAM capacity.

Performance and efficiency gain

This integration of optimization not only accelerates the performance of the game, but also ensures better resource management. Reducing the GPU time and VRAM usage enables more smooth game experience for constant graphic faithfulness. These improvements were particularly beneficial in the vegetation scenes, and optimization reduced the GPU time for a specific rendering pass by 55%.

Technical insight and implementation

This optimization implementation of NVIDIA included baking the opaque microbap of the CPU for the static model and using the VK_BUILD_MICROMAP_PREFER_TRACE flag to improve performance. The company also set up a working load verification parameter to skip the process that takes too much time to solve the same tasks such as the extended baking time of the complex OMM.

Conclusion and the meaning of the future

The development of NVIDIA’s path tracking shows significant potential for games and other future graphic -intensive applications. Developers can achieve high -quality perspectives without damaging performance by reducing calculation overhead and optimizing resource use. Successfully deploying these technologies in Indiana Jones and The Great Circle ™ will be a precedent for similar innovation in the upcoming game title.
