A bizarre aerial phenomenon captured over Curitiba, Brazil, is the latest to catch the attention of “ufologists,” people who track sightings of unidentified flying objects as evidence of alien visitors. Two videos uploaded to YouTube show a triangular object hovering over the southern Brazilian city at different angles.
First, the photographer Zona Desconhecida has received over 31,000 views since it was uploaded on July 21st. As the camera zooms in, the object appears to sport a chassis-like landing gear that later disappears from the clip. The videographer initially dismissed it as a drone, but the lack of visible propellers and its unusual trajectory quickly dispelled that notion.
The second video shows the mysterious spacecraft in even more detail, with seemingly transparent or shiny surfaces and subtle changes in shape as it flies. The video has been viewed more than 25,000 times on YouTube and has spread like wildfire on other social media platforms, with some breathlessly declaring it to be “the clearest UFO footage in history.”
Armchair analysts scrutinized every frame, noting how the objects appeared to expand and contract as they moved. These observations led to wild speculation, with some suggesting they could be biological spaceships, multidimensional life forms, or, of course, alien spaceships.
However, some Internet sleuths claim that the object is simply a giant star-shaped balloon, and that the “landing gear” is a result of the camera angle distorting the image. Skeptics also counter that the video quality (while praised by some) is not good enough to draw any firm conclusions.
The UFO filmed in Curitiba was just a balloon
On Thursday, July 25th, a cameraman captured the moment a UFO appeared to be hovering in the sky in a video he posted on his YouTube channel.

The shape and movement of this object certainly bears a striking resemblance to the strangely shaped balloons previously launched in Brazil. Footage from January 11, 2013 shows Brazilians releasing a similar balloon-like object into the sky.
The Brazilian Air Force reportedly has not verified the images, according to local media. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Decode.
This recent incident adds another chapter to Curitiba’s history of unexplained aerial phenomena. The city of 1.7 million people has the most UFO sightings in Brazil, according to declassified government records. Between 1952 and 2022, at least 861 UFO sightings were recorded across Brazil, with Curitiba accounting for a whopping 80 of them.
One of the most infamous UFO sightings in Brazil occurred on May 19, 1986, when multiple sightings were reported in multiple locations in just one night.
The incident was significant enough that the Brazilian Air Force held a press conference, where a brigadier general famously said, “It’s not a question of whether you believe in aliens or not. We can only provide technical information. We have some hypotheses. Technically speaking, we can’t explain it.”
