- Phantom acquires Bitski to enhance Web3 capabilities.
- Integrations simplify the user onboarding process.
- This acquisition could increase Solana’s adoption.
User experience has long been one of the focuses of cryptocurrency innovation in a field often considered difficult to enter. To make this experience as seamless as possible, Solana-powered Phantom Wallet has acquired Bitski, a Web3 browser extension.
The goal of this acquisition is to simplify the onboarding process for users and developers, making it easier to interact with decentralized applications (dApps) on the Solana blockchain.
Why Phantom acquired Bitsky
On Thursday, May 21, Phantom, the leader in Solana cryptocurrency wallets, announced the acquisition of Bitski at a time when demand for user-friendly decentralized applications is peaking. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the team shared some plans for the future.
Phantom, whose user base has doubled in the past three months to 7 million monthly active users, aims to integrate Bitski’s browser extension into its wallet. The goal is to simplify the user onboarding process and improve the overall user experience.
Importantly, Bitski allows users to create a wallet with just their email address. This bypasses the need for phrases and private key management, which can be complicated for new users. Crucially, Bitski encrypts these keys and claims they cannot be accessed.
This technology also allows developers to integrate wallet functionality directly into their applications. Therefore, the app allows users to interact with decentralized applications (dApps) without leaving the app.
These features have made Bitski a significant player in the non-fungible token (NFT) space. NFTs are one of the most complex assets for users to manage, which has been a major barrier to NFT adoption.
What Phantom will do with Bitski
According to Bitski, this acquisition means that its products, including the Bitski wallet, will soon be phased out. Users who have created a Bitski Wallet will be able to obtain private keys and self-administration of the wallet starting May 27th. However, they announced that they are building a new product with Phantom.
Bitski and Phantom haven’t revealed any details about the product yet, but are planning to launch it. However, they stated that the Bitski team will work to bring an embedded wallet to Solana. These wallets are integrated directly into decentralized applications (dApps), allowing users to interact with them without having to switch apps.
By embedding wallet functionality directly into dApps, users can perform transactions and manage their assets without leaving the application. David Wu of Phantom emphasized that this approach makes decentralized applications more practical and reliable.
Embedded applications also contribute to a better user experience, which is likely to drive the adoption of encryption and Web3 applications.
On the flip side
- Recently, Phantom third place The hype around the Solana-based Telegram app has earned it a spot in the App Store Utilities category.
- While adoption is growing, Solana is struggling with network issues. congestion problemThis will result in serious transaction failure.
Why This Matters
By simplifying the onboarding process and integrating advanced wallet features, Phantom is making it easier for new users to enter the cryptocurrency space and participate in decentralized applications. This could potentially lead to a surge in user adoption and increased activity on the Solana network.
