When I asked many people, “What are you most looking forward to at Devcon4?”, most people answered: people! Once a year, it’s a time when we all get together. We don’t want to spend time at Devcon sitting in a dark room quietly watching the people on stage. We want to see each other, meet each other, talk to each other.
In that spirit, we are designing Devcon4’s programming and environment to provide the time and space for all of us to make new connections between people and ideas. This is an opportunity for us to ask each other the most important questions and dive deep into the most difficult challenges (and exciting opportunities!) facing Ethereum today.
So we’re going to be experimenting with more participatory programming at Devcon4 this year!
There are three ways you can apply to participate in Devcon4:
- Give a presentation: This is self-explanatory. 😉 Give a lightning talk for 5 minutes or give a presentation for 20 minutes on a topic of your choice.
- Lead a workshop: Teach people to do something. For two hours, participants will have to “get their hands dirty” by learning how to write code or tell a story.
- Host small meeting rooms: Get creative and come up with your own programming for Devcon4! Host dapp design critiques, foster dialogue, and perform real-time security reviews (insert your cool idea here).
When you apply, please link your session to one of the following six core themes:
- scalability: How can we scale Ethereum in a secure, decentralized, and trustless manner to achieve mass adoption?
- security: How can you ensure the safety of user data and funds?
- seclusion: How can we empower users to control their own data?
- developer experience: How can we make Ethereum development simple, scalable, and fun?
- UX and Design: How can we create a more intuitive, useful, and enjoyable experience for users?
- society and system: Why do we do BUIDL? How will this technology change our social systems and the people within them? (To be clear, this is also a “catch-all” topic for governance, cryptoeconomics, social influence, memes, etc.)
If you want to talk about a specific dapp or protocol, please do so in relation to one of our shared topics. How have you identified or solved common problems? How can your work benefit the rest of our community?
With up to 3000 entrants and limited time, we expect entry to be very competitive this year. To avoid missing out on your Devcon4 tickets, please purchase your tickets in advance in case your submission is not accepted! We will issue refunds to anyone who purchases a ticket and then qualifies for a free pass.
Help us create a Devcon4 experience in the spirit of the following values:
- Participatory: We are all creating the Ethereum ecosystem together, and Devcon4 should reflect this. In addition to educational conversations, Devcon4 should provide opportunities for participants to contribute to broader conversations and share information with each other.
- educational: As the only event hosted by EF, Devcon4 is an opportunity for our community to learn directly from leaders in the Ethereum ecosystem. Participants need to learn things they can’t learn anywhere else.
- funny: The biggest reason people come to Devcon is to meet each other! Let’s create a unique “Ethereum” family gathering for our community.
