- Fans had mixed reactions.
- $SBOY token surged by 157%.
Influencers are increasingly involved in the crypto space and are doing whatever it takes to bring attention to memecoins. One of the most recent examples is American rapper Soulja Boy, who is promoting an upcoming video game tied to his cryptocurrency token, $SBOY, on the Solana blockchain.
The anticipation surrounding the project has led to significant market activity, with the token rising significantly, even as many of its fans remain skeptical about the game.
Soulja Boy Token Up 157%
Influencers are increasingly exploring the connection between cryptocurrencies and gaming. On Wednesday, August 14, Soulja Boy announced that a video game tied to the $SBOY memecoin is almost done. The game has received mixed reactions on social media, both positive and negative. Despite this, the token has seen significant gains.
The $SBOY token, which is based on the Solana blockchain, surged 157% from $0,000278 to a high of $0,000649 after the game update. Soulja Boy later highlighted this fact in a social media post, saying the token was going viral.
It is unclear whether this will boost the token indefinitely, though. Just hours after the announcement, the token corrected its price to 0.000399, which is still up 47% compared to 24 hours ago.
Mixed Reactions to Soulja Boy Video Game
The surge in activity for the $SBOY token came after Soulja Boy teased screenshots of his upcoming crypto game. The images, which featured the character in an arcade-like setting, raised questions about the game’s overall quality and design.
One user questioned the viability of the project, asking, “Who would play this?” Another pointed out the short development timeline: “Considering this takes 2-3 months? That’s great, Dev Cook.” A larger game would take at least a year or two to work on, he added.
The response generally highlighted the problems with crypto games. Large-scale game titles have budgets in the hundreds of millions of dollars and take years to develop. Despite advances in game engines and assets, it will take a long time for influencers to release triple-A titles.
On the other side

- Especially for influencer cryptocurrencies like Solana-based Mimecoin. A gloomy recordIn July, all celebrity tokens on Solana fell from -99.98% to -73.23%.
Why this matters
This case highlights the hype often associated with Memecoin, especially when it comes to celebrity-backed projects. Despite the significant risks and Soulja Boy’s track record, many are still willing to invest in hopes of a quick return.
