Announced by pseudonymous developer Cantelope Peel, the program will run for six weeks, starting July 10. Backed by Immunefi, the program will award up to $1 million to developers who discover critical bugs in the first version of the client, Firedancer v0. 1 (nicknamed “Frankendancer”).
According to Cantelope Peel, work on Firedancer appears to be going smoothly, writing that X has “tested millions of execution slots and is consistent with the Solana protocol.”
The Firedancer client is intended to increase the resiliency of Solana, as problems with the current client can mean major problems for the blockchain. In addition, Firedancer is implemented in C/C++, optimizing the client for high-frequency transactions known as Jump.
“Given Solana’s success, their years of involvement in the ecosystem, and the very specific technical challenges they were trying to solve in terms of optimizing their network and runtime, (Firedancer) seemed like a really great opportunity for us to come in and contribute,” Jump Crypto President Kanav Kariya told The Block last year.
