Status, one of Ethereum’s longest-running open source projects, has returned to the spotlight with the launch of a privacy-preserving superapp and gasless L2 network integrated with USS Status, a satirical sci-fi comic that turns the cryptocurrency’s messy past into comedy.
The old giant wakes up
Status, the open-source privacy super app, has launched a new identity personified with precision-integrated apps, a gasless L2 network, and an irreverent and satirical web comic.
As one of the oldest projects in the Ethereum ecosystem, Status has weathered industry volatility by quietly continuing to build an open source platform that combines a secure cryptocurrency wallet, privacy messenger, and web browser within a single application.
Founded in 2017, Status has lived through ICO crazes, regulatory whiplash, centralized exchange collapses, memecoin cycles, and repeated attempts to rebuild the internet with better fundamentals.
Now they’re back with a mission to make personal information accessible to everyone.
Crypto’s first comic book series?
The project is being launched to celebrate the app renewal and upcoming launch of Status Network. USS Status – An animated web series that tells the story of a group of memetic misfits navigating a chaotic galaxy marred by surveillance, centralization, and bad governance.
The satirical sci-fi series features allusions to characters, tokens, and projects that will be instantly familiar to native cryptocurrency viewers and provides a fun look into the colorful history of the cryptocurrency world.
Episode 1 brings back the infamous cryptocurrency figure, but USS Status insists it’s all just a coincidence.

Platform behind the punchline
The USS Status virtual ship runs on the Ethereum blockchain (for now) and uses the same technology built into the currently available Status privacy superapp.
Status allows users to chat, transact, and explore privately in one place, and a new integrated app is now available for mobile and desktop.
They’re not the only team building super apps, but they’re focused on providing ultimate privacy using Logos’ peer-to-peer messaging technology (formerly Whisper) and decentralized smart contracts.
The app features anonymous profiles, a multi-chain crypto wallet with built-in swap functionality, end-to-end encrypted messaging, censorship-resistant community space, and a privacy-sensitive web browser.
