Ethereum layer 2 network Arbitrum One suffered an outage of approximately 78 minutes on December 15, but is now back online, according to a statement from the network’s Discord community manager Ricardo “Gordan.” Gas prices on the network are still abnormally high but should “normalize”.
According to an alert posted on Arbitrum’s official status page, the sequencer “frozen” at 10:29 a.m. (13:29 UTC) during a “significant surge in network traffic.” At 5:58 PM UTC, Arbitrum’s block explorer Arbiscan showed that some blocks were being produced. However, it turns out that they only process two transactions in each block.
Some users visit Guess The inscription explains whether the disruption occurred or not. This is because it accounts for a small number of transactions in each block. This was later confirmed by the team. An inscription is a type of data format used in some blockchain networks and is often used to convey collectible images. Inscription originated in Bitcoin, but recently found its way into Arbitrum thanks to the MemeOrdi protocol.
According to blockchain analytics platform Layer2Beat, Abitrum users can withdraw their assets to Ethereum even if the sequencer is down, but it will take 24 hours to process. If the proposer validator is also down, the process will take at least 6 days, 8 hours, 43 minutes, and 36 seconds. The network went down in less than two hours.
Update (December 15, 8:34 p.m. UTC): This article has been updated to include a statement from the team saying the network is operational.
This is a developing story and additional information will be added as it becomes available.
