Madrid-based startup Therapyside is improving the connection between therapists and clients by providing advanced AI tools to therapists to bridge the gap in mental health services. The plan comes as the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights serious gaps in mental health resources, noting there are only 13 mental health workers per 100,000 people globally.
Therapeutic Alliance Powered by AI
Therapyside, an NVIDIA Inception program participant, is powering its online therapy platform with NVIDIA NIM inference microservices. These AI-based services act as virtual assistants and note takers, allowing therapists to focus on client interactions without the distraction of manually taking notes.
Alessandro De Sario, founder and CEO of Therapyside, emphasizes the importance of building a strong therapeutic alliance, saying, “When therapists can focus on the session without worrying about taking notes, they can reach a level of trust and connection much faster.”
Real AI Tools
Therapyside’s AI tools, currently in beta, offer features such as speech recognition to transcribe conversations and large-scale language models to generate clinical notes. This technology not only saves time, but also allows therapists to effectively manage more clients. AI assistant Maia leverages Search Augmented Generation (RAG) to provide therapists with insightful answers to questions.
Therapyside plans to expand its AI tools with additional language support and offline capabilities for face-to-face sessions. “We want to make this tool even more powerful, so it can handle administrative tasks like calendar management and patient follow-up,” De Sario added.
Expand your reach and capabilities
Founded in 2017, Therapyside works with around 1,000 qualified therapists across Europe and offers services in English, Italian and Spanish. To date, over 500,000 therapy sessions have been conducted through this platform.
Therapists participating in the beta program praised the AI tool’s accuracy and ability to improve session engagement. “It is very helpful to have a personalized summary along with a transcription highlighting the most important points of each session,” said Alejandro A., a therapist in the program.
Maia supports therapists by remembering session details such as client personal information and suggesting exercises to improve client outcomes. This feature is especially useful for therapists managing a global client base.
technology backbone
Therapyside’s AI infrastructure runs on NVIDIA GPUs in a secure cloud environment, leveraging NVIDIA NIM microservices for efficient AI deployment. The transcription process uses NVIDIA Riva NIM microservices and the Llama 3.1 AI model suite to generate comprehensive session summaries.
Future updates aim to customize Maia for specific treatment approaches and enhance security by integrating NVIDIA NeMo Guardrails. Kimberly Powell, NVIDIA’s Vice President of Medical Affairs, will discuss Therapyside’s innovations at the upcoming HLTH conference in Las Vegas.
