There are currently around 9,000 validators waiting in line on the Ethereum network as the cryptocurrency price reaches $3,000. The number of validators could exceed 1 million by the Bitcoin halving in April. As re-filming began.

Ethereum Explorer beaconcha.in shows 8,799 ambitious validators whose addition to the network could bring the number of validators close to one million. No validator has any intention of leaving the network.

Validator Crowd to Reclaim Potential

Last week, the amount of ETH staked on the network reached $1.24 billion. Additionally, the network onboarded 12,741 nodes during the same period. The total number of currently active validators is 945,647.

The so-called Ethereum merger in 2022 changed Ethereum’s consensus mechanism from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake. This upgrade replaced miners with validators who are incentivized to secure the network. Afterwards, node validators can stake 32 ETH to secure the network and earn cryptocurrency rewards.

Many ambitious validators are emerging amid a growing number of applications that can boost the returns of staked ETH. So-called re-staking services increase profits by re-staking ETH invested in liquid staking services such as Lido Finance and Ethereum. Crypto analyst and trader Miles Deutscher said re-staking will be one of several opportunities to reap significant returns in 2024.

“Re-staking is a form of staking that allows you to stake your ETH again. So, if you have already staked your Ethereum on a liquid staking protocol like Lido, you can stake your staked ETH on other middleware solutions that will provide you with additional returns, essentially stacking returns on top of returns,” Deutscher said. . .

How Ethereum Mistook Validators for CEX

On its own, the Ethereum staking smart contract provides validators with an annualized rate of return of approximately 4%. Those who do not have the required amount can earn rewards by adding tokens to the staking pool.

Institutions can also earn money by staking ETH across multiple nodes on behalf of their customers. These services eliminate the hassle of setting up Ethereum software on a person’s computer. In return, the company takes a cut of your compensation.

However, not all large validators are institutions. One individual who staked 32,000 ETH across 1,000 nodes recently claimed that he was unable to receive staking rewards because he was mistaken for a centralized cryptocurrency exchange.

BeInCrypto reached out to lead ETH developer Tim Beiko about reaching 1 million node validators, but did not hear back at press time.
