Several cryptocurrency projects that experienced significant growth in 2024 are expected to hold token generation events (TGEs) in the first quarter of 2025.
Platforms such as Monad and Pump.fun attracted large investments throughout the year, driven by increased engagement and key developments. These projects are likely to launch their own tokens in the first quarter.
Upcoming TGE to lead competition in cryptocurrency market
Blockchain analyst Colin Wu posted a list of potential TGE projects on social media, although there wasn’t much comment to explain the team’s reasoning. Analysts previously predicted the launch of HyperLiquid’s HYPE token by the end of 2024. The Q1 2025 list includes both returning projects and new entries.
For example, Wu predicted last July that Monad would conduct TGE in 2024 and is now listed as a strong candidate. Monad enjoyed high success in its funding round last summer, and TGE could help the company raise more capital in 2025. However, he no longer lists Monad as the most likely project, handing that position to Pump.fun.
Pump.fun, a Solana-based meme coin platform, has recently experienced significant market turmoil. Initially, as it grew to surpass $100 million in sales, it faced criticism from the community.
The platform’s unique features, such as live streaming, have since been misused by traders to promote harmful content. Additionally, the report said that most users trading Pump.fun tokens suffered losses. These claims have led to regulatory scrutiny, particularly in the UK.
Wu and his team mentioned several successful fundraisers that have enabled TGE to be carried out. Story Protocol was one of the cryptocurrency industry’s biggest VC funding beneficiaries in August, but it doesn’t have a token yet.
Likewise, Polymarket teased a token launch following the company’s pre-election trading boom, but nothing has materialized since then.
The study includes one more useful data point: the amount and source of invested capital prior to token launch. Several names have invested in several candidates, such as Polychain, which backed several large airdrops in December. This could be a strong signal that potential TGEs and/or airdrops will occur in the near future.
