SAN FRANCISCO, April 10, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — In the rapidly evolving landscape of blockchain intelligence used to combat cryptocurrency fraud and financial crime, understanding and interpreting on-chain activity has come a significant step forward. The first generation is characterized by providing insights based on underlying blockchain data. Next came second-generation attribution, which greatly advanced blockchain research by linking addresses to real-world entities. Today, TRM Labs is proud to introduce the next leap forward in behavioral intelligence, marking the beginning of the third generation of blockchain research.
The third generation of blockchain intelligence is emerging with the launch of TRM Labs’ Transfer Labels.
TRM pioneered the foundation of behavioral intelligence in 2020 with the launch of Signatures®, a feature that identifies patterns across a group of on-chain transactions that indicate underlying suspicious behavior that may have gone unnoticed. Signatures allow investigators to quickly find and plan sophisticated money laundering techniques and other on-chain types.
To make data on the blockchain more understandable and actionable for investigators, TRM is augmenting behavioral intelligence by introducing transfer labels – datasets that enrich the context that signifies a particular transaction was on-chain. Currently, most tools simply reflect inter-company fund flows without signaling the purpose of the transaction. Transfer labels allow you to examine and understand what is happening within a transaction, whether it is a message stored on the blockchain, a smart contract is created, funds are stolen on-chain, or a ransom is paid.
“Ever since we started working with blockchain data, our goal has been to understand and explain what happens within it,” said TRM Labs CEO Esteban Castaño. “Behavioral intelligence combines detailed transaction analysis and pattern recognition to provide a clearer picture of blockchain activity. “This is a significant advancement in blockchain research, providing both detailed insight and broader understanding of on-chain events.”
This approach helps you:
- Law enforcement agencies discover and act on sophisticated obfuscation techniques more quickly.
- Financial institutions and cryptocurrency companies strengthen their due diligence capabilities and improve regulatory compliance.
- Tax authorities detect tax evasion more effectively.
TRM Labs is providing this technology to institutions and organizations interested in deepening their understanding of blockchain activities. Behavioral Intelligence represents an important step in the evolution of blockchain research, providing tools for more nuanced analysis of blockchain data.
