The Trump administration plans to integrate blockchain technology into the procurement and distribution process of the US International Development Institution (USAID), which has played an important role in providing humanitarian aid and development support around the world, and reported on Thursday.

The goal is to promote innovation and focus on measurable results, increasing the tracking of security, transparency and aid distribution.

The USAID has faced great confusion since Trump’s second term has begun, due to policy changes and reductions in funds.

The government’s efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, agreed to close USAID to indicate corrupt and inefficient. Since then, the instructions were followed by employees entering the USAID headquarters and placing most employees on administrative leave.

Thousands of USAID employees were sent home worldwide to stop almost all foreign aid programs. The contract, which is considered a non -required agreement, ends, creating a wide range of uncertainty.

Some blockchain initiatives have shown promise in humanitarian business, but experts express skepticism about the necessity of technology.

Digital anthropologist Margie Cheesman said in a 2024 research paper that blockchains are often used as “operations” tools to attract humanitarian projects and to attract humanitarian projects.

Her studies on unveiled programs show that blockchains have added a huge cost of benefits, and many aid workers lack basic knowledge of technology.

According to a report published earlier this year, Musk is seeking blockchain technology to improve the US government process. His focus includes federal expenditure tracking, securing data, simplifying payment and government real estate management.

This initiative can modernize federal technology, reduce inefficiency, and create the largest government blockchain project in American history. Doge’s consideration is focused on promoting transparency and reducing costs in the government sector.
