friend,

What an exciting week it has been! We went on sale for our first tickets and they sold out in just 18 minutes! But don’t worry. There will be more ticket sales in addition to the various discounts and scholarships you can apply for. Transparency and clear communication are what the Devcon team strives for, so we wanted to share our thoughts on Devcon4 ticket allocation and sales to answer questions and address feedback we’ve received from the community.

Ticket distribution and revenue distribution

First: More than two-thirds of Devcon4 tickets are discounted or free, targeting different groups of builders and students. The remaining third of tickets are being sold in a series of “waves” at the same per-ticket rate as the previous two Devcon events. This includes conference and operating costs of the Ethereum Foundation. This allows us to use our financial resources to give back to the local community by funding key developments and providing ecosystem grants. Additionally, revenue from donations from community leaders allows us to sell most of our tickets at a discount and provide scholarships.

tide

Waves is a way for anyone to purchase general admission tickets. We are spacing out the timing of our waves so that we can apply the lessons we learn to future waves. (For example, in the first wave we learned a bug that delayed the sending of e-ticket receipts to people who paid with cryptocurrency!)

builder support

We want to make attending Devcon4 as easy as possible for people building decentralized applications and the Ethereum protocol. Although much of the programming and content is very technical, we invite independent builders or builders working in small organizations of all kinds. builder discount: Developers, designers, researchers, community organizers, and even artists. What would Ethereum be without you?

Diversity and Inclusion

For the Ethereum community to have a positive social impact, the people who build this ecosystem must reflect the beautiful diversity of the human experience. We are providing scholarships to help Devcon grow to be more diverse, accessible, and equitable than ever. Apply for Scholarship If you need additional financial support to participate in Devcon4

  • I am from a developing country
  • Identify underrepresented populations (race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) within the Ethereum ecosystem.
  • Are from an academic and/or research institution.

We are doing our best to review and respond to all 1,000 discount and scholarship applications received to date. Please keep coming.

Coming soon!

We’ll have more details on future wave schedules and speaker and session registration soon.

I hope this helps you understand how to handle tickets in Devcon4. Lastly, we are always open to your ideas and feedback to improve this process.
