Virginia proposes $17,192 in annual funding for the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Council in 2025 and 2026 to research and encourage blockchain technology.
The allocation is part of a broader effort to support the state’s participation in emerging technologies, as outlined in a report released Sunday.
The Artificial Intelligence Commission will receive $22,048 per year over the same period, and the Virginia Autism Advisory Board will receive $12,090 per year to distribute funds to state boards.
Established during the 2024 legislative session, the Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Committee is currently part of the Legislature and consists of 15 members. The committee aims to conduct research and provide broad recommendations on blockchain technology and digital assets, the foundation of cryptocurrencies.
The designated funds are primarily intended to cover operating expenses, including conference travel costs.
